OH BUT ISN’T SILK SO SOFT…
This time-based mixed media piece- with live silkworms wrapping itself in cocoons and connecting the diptych, showing cycles of life (raised to live fully)- comments on the exploitation of silkworm lives for the materialistic luxury humans seek.
Juxtaposing live creatures with human inventions and intentions unknown to them (left) and showing the irony of a human figure wrapping herself in the “cocoon” intended for nature’s use, it probes our apathy for life.
Medium: time-based mixed media diptych on canvas painting that are physically weaved together by strands of silk produced by live silkworms through time. (No animals are harmed in the creation process)
